These I Can Kindergarten Statements are the Common Core standards in kid friendly language. Here are the updated kindergarten CCSS checklists some of you have been asking for! Our common core standards checklists are just what you need to help you keep track of the standards taught in your classroom. Use these to make sure you are addressing all that you need to teach throughout the course of the school year. Keep track of when you have introduced, retaught and assessed each indicator. The most important parts of the common core are the anchor standards that carry through from kindergarten to high school. These have been included with each language arts checklist so that you don’t lose sight of your essential goals for teaching and learning. Please keep in mind that these checklists are more to be used as a system of checks and balances in your teaching for the year and not so much a “check off” sheet for these indicators to be checked and thought of as “done”.
You will be teaching so many of these concepts during your small groups and one-on-one conferencing each and every day. These checklists are presented in two ways. The first is an Excel spreadsheet that you can use to type in the dates and notes in each column. There are tabs along the bottom for all of the categories in each subject. The second is a PDF that you can simply print and write the dates in the columns. The first set of checklists have been created using the CCSS as they are found on www.corestandards.org and a second resource has been created using the I Can Kindergarten statements we created.
Choose whichever suits your needs the best! The first two links are the in depth explanations of the standards found at www.corestandards.org. You will find the new first grade checklists here: You will find the second grade checklists here: You will find the third grade checklists here: You will find the fourth grade checklists here. Hello Jill, I have benefited from your Common Core “I Can checklist” as well as the excel file for the checklists in math and literacy. I will be implementing the student evaluation step with Kinders in the next two weeks.

Thank you for sharing your efforts! One quick question: Could you provide an unprotected version of the excel from the column A? I had planned on using this section as a drop into my lesson plans to show accountability but this column is password protected. If you cannot, would you direct me to another electronic copy of the CCSS that would serve the same function? I am currently using the state version but the format is messy when copying and pasting.
